Hear From Our Families
Emily was the head teacher for my 3 year old. Her ability to clock who I was as a parent was unique and invaluable. One morning at drop off she saw me eyeing a screen in the classroom displaying leaves on a tree, and immediately asked me if it made me uncomfortable. This interaction catapulted our relationship, in which we were able to discuss parenting styles, new books, emerging concerns. And then one day, we were all sent home from school with no idea when we'd be back or under what circumstances. While many people I know wrote off "zoom school", said their kids would never sit through it ,or suffered through its chaos, I watched Emily jump into action and create a beautiful, engaging, and warm environment. My son couldn't wait to get on the computer and see Emily's smiling face, which never showed that she was also going through a pandemic with school aged children. She shared her home and her life with us and we all felt an unbreakable bond. Sometimes class would end and Emily would reach out and say "I could tell Ashe needed more today, let me know if he wants to FaceTime" and he would delight at the chance to share more of his day with her. All of the parents joined the zoom on the last day of school and we all cried seeing what this incredible person had created for our children in the most uncertain times. I know that whatever Emily touches will be a success and I'm excited to see this next chapter.

Emily is a once in a lifetime teacher and we were lucky enough to have her twice as we had two children under her guidance. She goes above and beyond for her students and their parents. In fact, she always referred to her students as her children and we really felt that. She’s loving, supportive, and fully accessible meeting both the children and the parents where they are. She provides a classroom that’s both academically stimulating and emotionally and socially nurturing. The level of attention to developing the whole child is second to none. We are forever grateful to the love and care from Emily in our lives.

Emily was my daughter’s head 3/4s teacher during a year in which we were entirely remote. I have yet to encounter any other parent who had a remote experience like we did with Emily. Every week, Emily would create a themed curriculum that truly engaged my daughter despite the distance through a screen. My daughter’s day was filled with creative and inspiring projects. Using basic materials you could easily find at home, Emily had an abundance of science, art and cooking projects that were perfectly age appropriate for my daughter’s class. Emily knew how to balance projects to make them both fun and engaging but also have them serve as a learning opportunity to master new concepts or ideas. On multiple occasions, Emily made herself available for 1 on 1 conversations with me to discuss the overall pre-academic and social-emotional development of my daughter. These sessions were invaluable to me as Emily was such a wonderful resource drawing on all of her experience as both a parent and also her profound professional early childhood experience. She is so easy to talk to and I found her feedback so encouraging as she offered guidelines and small changes we could make that were practical and easy to implement but had a big impact over time with daughter. Emily is someone who went above and beyond for my daughter and truly had a lasting impact on our entire family.

I had the pleasure of working with Emily during the Spring semester of 2020. As a visiting teacher in her classroom, I was privileged to watch Emily connect with her students and their parents. Always with her focus on the individual child, Emily’s genuine care shows up in her communication, openness, and knowledge of child development. Her natural connection with her students’ parents makes Emily a valuable resource for families.
